In 2001 I went along to Wantage Karate Club to accompany my daughter who was too shy?!! to go on her own to try and attain the sports accomplishment part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. Thinking it would be a temporary 3 months the 3 months have turned into more than 7 years. I attained my Shodan in December 2005 with the TSKA. This is mainly because of the extremely patient instruction of Sensei Edwards, my other instructors and the great encouragement of everyone else in the Club. There has also been the great input of all the instructors of various Clubs and Associations who have all been welcoming and supportive when I have darkened their doorsteps. I hope to carry on training for at least a week or two (at my age you never know what is going to snap or fall off!) to hopefully keep learning, keep up fitness and flexibility levels. It will also be great to watch and support the new and very talented karateka that are coming up through the Club. |
